What is line and copyediting?
Once you've gone through a developmental edit and are happy with the structure of your manuscript, the next phase of book editing is a line or copyedit. This will focus on the technicalities of your fiction writing in order to keep it lean, smooth and effective.
What is proofreading?
After your line or copyedit, you'll want to get the final product proofread whether you're self-publishing or submitting to agents or publishers. This is an essential part of the process as it is your last opportunity to catch any errors which might have been missed during the previous rounds of editing.
What is formatting?
Perhaps you're not very familiar with Word or you just want to focus on what you do best - writing - without having to worry about the presentation of your manuscript. Agents will want your manuscript to be formatted in a certain way, and I can help you with that.
What a manuscript critique?
Maybe you'd like some feedback before sending your manuscript out to beta readers, agents or publishers. I will write a report covering all aspects of your manuscript, giving a detailed critique of what you're doing well and the areas you might need some support in.
After you've had a developmental edit carried out, your next task will be to have a line or copyedit carried out by a professional book editor. This looks at the technical side of your fiction writing and focuses on clarity and consistency.

In order to carry out a successful proofread, I will need:
This will catch out any nasty errors caused by the formatting that wouldn't have been noticed before.

Before you send your manuscript to your preferred agent(s) you will need to have it formatted according to their exact specifications. Agents receive hundreds of manuscripts each week and yours could be the best book they've read in a long time, but if it isn't properly formatted it will likely end up in the slush pile. If you would prefer to stick to the writing side of things or you are short on time, I can do this for you.
As your formatter I will:
Before sending your manuscript out to beta readers, agents or publishers, you might benefit from a personalised critique from an industry professional. Perhaps you want to know if your story comes across in the way you intended, or whether you've used punctuation in the correct way, or whether your characters are believable. Receiving this level of feedback before proceeding with it any further could save you a lot of time and money, and it might be all you need to banish that imposter syndrome once and for all!
